SURVEY, MEETINGS: Public invited to review BRT station locations, designs

Posted on September, 23 2014

UPDATE (Sept. 29): The survey is now available at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/BRTstations and will close end of day Monday, Oct. 12.

---

The public is invited to attend one of three public meetings to provide feedback on proposed station locations and designs for a Bus Rapid Transit line being planned in Des Moines.

Bus Rapid Transit, or BRT, can be described as rail-like service delivered with rubber-wheeled vehicles. Several features differentiate a BRT line from a regular local bus route, including faster travel, stations instead of stops and real-time departure signs.

The first BRT line would be developed on what is today Route 60 – University / Ingersoll, a two-way, bidirectional loop route that operates on University and Ingersoll avenues between 42nd Street and through downtown Des Moines on Grand Avenue/Locust Street and 6th Avenue/7th Street. Building the project is contingent on funding.

Each meeting will include a presentation on the proposed station locations and designs. The presentation will be followed by a group comment session, as well as time to talk with staff members individually.
