The public will have a final chance to provide feedback on a new fare policy at a public hearing with DART Commission, the governing body of the Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority. The public hearing begins at noon Tuesday, Dec. 2, in the Multimodal Room of DART Central Station, 620 Cherry Street.
DART will operate on modified schedules in observance of the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays. Riders are advised to plan their trips accordingly.
DART sets dates for 10 How to Ride Training sessions in 2015. During these sessions, DART staff provides small group training to help individuals learn to ride the bus in Greater Des Moines.
The public is invited to a series of 12 public meetings Nov. 10-19, 2014, to provide feedback on a new DART fare policy draft. The new policy will go into effect with the installation of the new fare boxes in late 2015 or early 2016.
This fall, with the introduction of the MyDART Tools, we’ve made riding the bus a piece of cake. The icing on the cake: free rides on all DART Local, Express, Flex and On Call services during Try Transit Week Oct. 5-11, 2014.

Bus Rapid Transit, or BRT, can be described as rail-like service delivered with rubber-wheeled vehicles. Several features differentiate a BRT line from a regular local bus route, including faster travel, stations instead of stops and real-time departure signs.
Total ridership on Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority services reached 4.7 million rides in the last fiscal year (July 1, 2013 – June 30, 2014), an increase of more than 5 percent over the same previous period.
