Minor schedule changes planned for some local routes beginning August 24

DART will make minor schedule changes on some local routes beginning Sunday, August 24, 2025. The following routes will have changes:

• Local Route 5 – Franklin Ave/Johnston

• Local Route 6 – Indianola Ave 

• Local Route 7 – SW 9th St 

• Local Route 8 – Fleur Dr 

Schedule changes on Route 5 aim to keep buses running on time and improve transfers to other routes at DART Central Station.  

Schedule changes on Routes 6, 7 and 8 will help ensure Des Moines Public Schools students who are assigned to ride those routes get to school on time.  

You can find updated route schedules using the clickable links on this page. Printed route schedules will be available on buses and at the Customer Service window at DART Central Station after August 20. 

Local Route 4 - E 14th St

Please be aware: Route 4 trips that travel into Ankeny no longer stop at the Hy-Vee Commissary because the facility closed earlier this year. Buses instead stop on SE Delaware Ave., in front of Fleet Farm. The Route 4 schedule has not changed.

School service 

DART operates school service on some local routes in the morning and afternoon to help Des Moines Public Schools (DMPS) staff and students get to and from school. These additional trips will resume on the first day of school, Monday, August 25, and operate on days when school is in session.  

DMPS employees can ride DART for free at any time by showing the operator their staff ID when boarding a bus. DMPS middle and high school students have free access to DART at different times of day, depending on how the school district assigns their transportation.
