The Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC) Mobile Food Pantry is on-site at DART Central Station every Thursday and is accessible by transit at Merle Hay Mall on Tuesdays.

DART is creating a new long-term transit plan that will determine how its service can adapt to meet the evolving transportation needs in central Iowa. We recognize that even though we have been piloting new services to improve access and the overall experience using public transit, there are still transportation gaps and challenges keeping people from getting where they want, and need, to be. As part of these efforts, DART collected a first round of feedback from central Iowans in April 2021.

Six area nonprofit organizations received retired RideShare vans through DART’s van donation program on Monday, June 28.

DART and the American Bus Benchmarking Group (ABBG) are surveying Paratransit riders on buses and online throughout the month of June.

The 6th Avenue Corridor Urban Neighborhood Main Street Program and the Greater Des Moines Public Art Foundation have selected contemporary artist Sheena Rose for the 6th Avenue Corridor Bus Shelter public art project.

The Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART) is expanding its network of bus shelters and incorporating public art into their design with the help of a funding partnership with Bravo Greater Des Moines and a statewide call for artists issued by the Iowa Arts Council.

After May 3, 2021, DART will begin removing chains and signs blocking seats on all of its buses and inside the DART Central Station lobby to allow for more flexibility in social distancing.

DART has installed two new bus shelters along University Avenue that feature artwork commissioned by Drake University. The artwork by artists and Iowa natives Mollie Wallace and Dana Harrison features campus and neighborhood inspired designs made possible by the University through the generosity of Wells Fargo.

Starting on May 3, 2021, the MyDART app will implement stronger privacy and security measures by requiring customers to enter their CVV code when purchasing mobile passes using a debit/credit card payment option.

DART will donate multiple retired RideShare vans to nonprofit organizations, community groups or government agencies within DART’s service area this fall. Applications are due April 12.
