Wells Fargo Arena will host the first round of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament on Thursday, March 21 through Saturday, March 23. With additional traffic near the arena, DART must adjust routing for the following Express Routes:
- 92 – Hickman
- 93 – NW 86th
- 94 – Westown
- 95 – Vista
- 96 – EP True
- 99 – Altoona
Please note that the tournament should not cause detours or significant delays for Express Route 98 - Ankeny.
In the evening commute, most of DART’s Express Routes exit I-235 on 3rd Street, traveling to Grand Avenue to begin picking up riders for the return trip out of downtown. Because of increased pedestrians and other traffic near the arena, DART will not use 3rd Street, and will instead exit the interstate at East 6th St. in the East Village. From there, buses will head towards regular routing on Grand Avenue.
This diversion means these routes will not be able to use bus stop 3612 located on 3rd Street, near the intersection with Grand Avenue. Riders who normally use this stop should instead use stop 3433 located on Grand Avenue at the intersection with 4th Street.
Impacts to Real-Time Data
DART will adjust times for buses to leave so that they can arrive on Grand Avenue as close to their scheduled times as possible. Because buses will need to divert off their regular route, riders should know that real-time data could be inaccurate for the MyDART app, the MyDART Trip Planner and MyDART texts.
Once the bus begins passing regular stops and time-points on Grand Ave, the real-time data will adjust to display the correct time. DART will work to minimize any delays that these routes will experience due to the diverted routing and increased traffic downtown. Riders are asked to be at their stops at schedule times and to not rely on real-time data.
Thank you for your patience in case of delays. Riders with additional questions can contact DART Customer Service via email, or by calling 515-283-8100.
